From Munich central station (Hauptbahnhof) using public transport If you arrive in Munich via train at the central station, proceed in the following way. Follow the signs to the S-Bahn station downstairs. Take any S-Bahn heading in the direction toward Marienplatz or Ostbahnhof. Get off the train at Marienplatz (this will take only 3 minutes). Follow the signs to the U6 underground towards Garching-Forschungszentrum. Take the U6 until the final station Garching-Forschungszentrum (about 25 minutes). The Physics-Department I is 200 meters away north-east. Turn right at James-Franck-Straße and follow the signs to the main entrance. From the airport using public transport Arriving at the Munich international airport, follow the signs to the S-Bahn . Get on the S8 heading to Hauptbahnhof. At the third stop, called Ismaning (13 minutes later), get off the S-Bahn and take the bus no. 230 . Get off the bus at Garching-Forschungszentrum (about 20 minutes). By car Get off highway A9 at exit Garching Nord. Follow the sign to Forschungsinstitute. Turn left at the next traffic light onto B11 (Freisinger Landstraße). Turn right at the next three-way intersection onto Lichtenbergstraße. Turn left after 700 meters onto Boltzmann-Straße. After 20 meters, turn right onto James-Franck-Straße, and you will find the entrance to the physics department at the end of the street. map: Large scale view
